Farmi SSGR50 Skid-Steer Grapple
It is important to have the hinge point close to the tractor. If the hinge point is farther back, the grapple creates tail-swing. The worst grapples to turn are those that have the hinge point way back, on the grapple. The log must move sideways everytime the tractor turns, due to the tailswing, as shown in the drawing below. This can negatively influence the steering of the tractor.
This also requires a wider skid road, and is more prone to damaging the trees that are close to the skid road.
The Valby SGR76 and SGR76-ML three-point hitch grapples have a hinge point close to the tractor, so the load will follow the tractor. The picture below shows the SGR76-ML model tractor grapple.
